NATUROPATHY

Naturopathy

Naturopathy is based on the belief that given the right conditions the body will heal itself.

The aim of the naturopath is to identify the cause of the health problem at hand and then devise a programme to address both the cause and the symptoms. For example, when treating headaches the naturopath does not recognise the headache as a condition but rather a symptom of an underlying health problem.

Naturopathy uses lifestyle and supportive treatments, for example, herbal and homoeopathic medicines, nutrition and massage to strengthen and stimulate the individual's own healing processes. It can be used as an alternative or in conjuction with conventional medicine.

Naturopathy does not identify with one particular therapy but rather embraces and administers all natural therapies with the promise of the Hippocratic Oath to "never do harm". All treatments have no harmful side effects helping to restore and gain optimum health.

Naturopathic practices such as lifestyle modification, stress reduction, stress management, exercise, toxin reduction and nutrition are now recognised and recommended by more health care organisations.

The increase in health care services today means that there are more effective and less invasive treatments available through Naturopathy.
